The RTI has partnered with Upper Norwood Library (UNLH, South London) in a successful bid to the Minderoo-Oxford Challenge Fund in AI. We will work together to create a community lab based at the library to develop community decision-making processes about Artificial Intelligence.

The community lab will host five workshops in 2022-23, led by experts from Oxford University and ORBIT-RRI Ltd, each focused on one facet of AI. The objectives of the sessions will be to help community members to learn about a technology, explore its potential impact locally and in the world, and map out actions to influence the development and governance of that technology towards the public’s best interest.

Dr Pericle Salvini, leading the project at Oxford, commented: “We hope that this community lab will be the start of a much wider initiative – lessons and knowledge from this case study will be published openly so that so other libraries across the UK can use them as a model to implement their own labs.”
